I bought this book for my grand-daughter, but I had to read it first.I would highly recommend this book for any parent or coach of a female in any sport, as well as the young athlete herself.Jennie Finch is a wonderful example of strength in both the physical and mental game. She has great advice for the athlete, parent and coach. She discusses her background, her upbringing, her adversities, and her support during her amazing career. Her advice is exemplary, not just in the physical game but in every aspect of a young girl's life. She encourages all young girls to "Dream and Believe".
This was an excellent book for my 9 year old softball player. She relates well with what Jennie discusses and how she says it. Jennie tells her story from being young, feeling pressure, facing doubters, on to how to handle success. After each chapter she gives tips specific to the topic. Well written and fairly easy for my 9 year old to read. I can see my daughter referring back to this in the coming years. She recommends and shares it with her friends. Excellent book for non-softball players as well.
This may be a book for girls playing softball, but it's beneficial for any young girl needing to believe in herself and those parents who want to help raise their daughters to appreciate themselves and know how to practice and keep trying with anything they are interested in. It teaches them and reinforces the values I raise my daughter and son with. Jennie is a great woman and mentor. I am so glad I bought this book for my daughter! I encourage everyone who has a daughter to buy it!
I bought this for my 10 year old daughter that loves softball but had a tough year ( not a lot of team wins). I didn't want her to get dicscouraged so I looked at some books and chose this one. She loved it!! Per my daughters review, Jennie details how she overcame adversity at a young age to her success. She even chose to use the book for a oral biography report in her 5th grade class. Glad I got it!
My daughters and I love this book. It is very well written and gives girls that boost of confidence. We read a chapter at a time out loud, it shows them that hard work does pay off even when people tell you that you will amount to nothing, you keep on trying!
Jennie Finches novel "Throw Like A Girl" really emphasizes the positive impacts sports can have on young girls. Finch who grew up in Southern California never gave up on her dream of playing softball, and worked her way to playing in the Olympics. She encourages all her readers to never give up and to always believe in yourself. In addition, Finch also talks about how to be a good teammate, how to handle pressure, and how to accept who you are. This novel is inspiring as well as encouraging, I would suggest reading.
My 10 year old read this book cover to cover in a matter of days and was reciting lines to me from it on the regular. I absolutely love the example set by Jennie Finch for all the young softball players out there. This was a wonderful read for all girls for both softball and in life. It's a must have!
This is a great book! My 10 year old daughter is just learning to be a pitcher and LOVES this book! As a Dad, I spend a lot of time with her. Practicing, encouraging, correcting and it is something that brings us together. This book teaches her things I as a father can't. Like how to handle teams, coaches, disappointments, balancing girl things, etc. My daughter loves the book but as a Dad, I love that she talks to me about things because of this book! Something happens in a game and she will come to me and say, "I read about this in Jenny Finch's book and she said the same thing happened to her!" Then we can talk about it. Without the book, I think she would just try to internalize it and get frustrated and down. It is great for kids to see even someone like Jenny struggled with things.
