Because of the cover and certainly the price, I hurried and bought this book. I'm a long-time cook. Yet this Bread book was absolutely far more innovative in selection than I've ever seen. It's in one word a stunner. The recipes are like no other bread book I've seen. Bread doughs that are sweet, savory, regular, French, braids, pretzels, bagels. Along with pizza doughs, donut doughs, also included are many types of coffee cakes, and muffin recipes. This book was so inspiring to me I'm going out this week to purchase the Expressbake Bread Machine! No running out of bread and trips to the store this winter!!!
The author seems to suggest this book is for the beginning bread machine baker which I am BUT starting with the table of contents there is NOT a single item listed that one could accept as a basic bread recipe! Not one!! Doesn't even have your basic white or whole wheat bread! It's not there! Yes, the owner's manual has basic recipes, look at my review of the machine, you'll see my pictures of Oster's "basic recipe" for whole wheat bread! Looks like a giant, 2lb, cancerous tumor!The first two recipes, in the book, don't involve the bread machine for much more than a convenient parking space for the dough. Page 140 shows "Orange Cranberry Whole Wheat Bread". Leave out the orange stuff and you might have a loaf of whole wheat bread BUT what's the loaf size setting supposed to be? Don't know if the loaf is 1lb, 1.5lb or 2lb! Obviously the author is making certain assumptions without advising the reader what the assumptions are. Up to 1968 telepathy wasn't an elective in my high school.However, in the author's defense, I have scoured bread sites looking for recipes and found they too, don't list a bread weight setting most of the time! I didn't buy Oster's top of the line, one has to manually set the loaf weight. Doesn't the author know that?If all of that is not dumb enough, at the end of the book the author offers an email address, feedback@hhfpress.com to write to. Guess what? "Address not found!" Book was published in 2016! What a crock!!!
Not a good book. I was expecting basic, clear recipes for a specific breadmaker, instead this is a collection of odd ball recipes seemingly copied from somewhere else. For a book that says it has "classic" recipes, there is none for white or whole wheat bread. Just weird stuff you'd never make, using coconut oil??? etc. Ingredients wander from cups/spoons to grams, even in the same recipe. One has "add cranberries and walnuts at the end", but these are not listed in the recipe itself. Most recipes say to "add water or flour as needed" - hold it, this is for a specific breadmaker, they should be tried and true and not need adjusting (unless they were just copied from somewhere and pasted here???) think someone threw this together, tacked on a popular breadmaker to sucker folks in, and is laughing somewhere. Its being returned.FYI, the shipping and book quality was fine, not meaning to knock the seller, just the author of the book.
I bought this book as a companion to the Oster Expressbake Machine I bought here on Amazon.First of all, let me say that the recipes are amazing. Of all the recipes I've tried (probably about 1/3 of the book so far), they are all delicious and bake exactly as described EXCEPT for 1 thing: none of the finished loaves fit in this bread oven. All of the loaves rise to the tippy top of the oven and push against the little window on the top. These recipes were clearly not tested for this oven.It would have been much better if there had been an option to scale the loaf (whichever it is! The author never says...) down a bit so it fits.See my attached photo of the Italian Bread I made from the book.
Excellent bread machine cookbook. Even though the instructions are for a specific machine, the instructions are well written and easy to follow with your own bread machine. There is no interactive table of contents which is a disappointment and I deducted one star for this reason. It is very nice to have so many fabulous bread machine recipes in one book. Highly recommend for anyone who likes to bake using their bread machine.
This is a ridiculous book... at least 50% advertizing.The balance may be of interest to some folks... not to me.Hey folks, this is supposed to be a BREAD cookbook, for a BREAD MACHINE.It starts out with Bagels, then progresses to Calzones and Soft Pretzels.Then through three more chapters before it gets to relatively ordinary bread like French Bread.
I would've awarded a 5 star rating were it not for the weird glitch that occurs on some recipes which are written in grams (weight) instead of cups (dry measure). It's like whoever was editing was asleep at the screen. The doable recipes I've tried are worth the price of the book, though I've had to cut back on the amount of yeast to get it just right. I'd sure like to know how the measurement mixup occurred! As odd as it is, I'd buy the book again, knowing its shortcomings.
I got the e-book.It doesn't contain anything in the Table of Contents except the chapter number. You don't know what each chapter contains (sweet bread, savory bread, gluten-free, ect.), the recipes are not listed under the Table of Contents and there isn't any index. This makes it VERY difficult to use. Otherwise I would have given a higher rating.I didn't find anything helpful in the first part as I've used a breadmaker for about 15 years, so am no a newbie to bread making. I got this book to be able to try out different kinds of breads and make the most out of my Oster machine (which I love!)I saw many good recipes upon my first scroll through the book. I won't open the book again until the problem gets fixed - it's pretty much useless right now since the Table of Contents has no content.I contacted Amazon to let them know about the book snafu. Once it is corrected I will update my review.
